Have you resoldered the solder joints ? Is the magnet screw fastened? I 
never did it before
but you can totally disassemble the TG. The would be another interesting 
project to talk about.

What about cleaning all the magnet shafts from rust (sometimes there 
is), giving the brass
base plate better contact, improving all  ground paths etc. to  minimize 
cross talk?
