People have used 33v to 36V zener diodes across the 47K 1W resistor.

Couldn't one do a mod to the circuit in that one uses a 70V zener diode 
in parallel to the 10uF cap and use a 100V type
which is much smaller without affecting  the overall function of the 
circuit.
