TRIPLE WEBER SIDE-DRAUGHT
CARBURETTOR KITS
"If You Want to Go All the Way with Carburettors"
This writer can remember when Formula I racing cars were powered by
carburetted engines. I can remember pictures of Ferraris with twelve intake
horns. You can add the magic of side-draught Webers to your TR250 or TR6
sports car, but you should not do this lightly or without a good plan.
To add a triple Weber side-draught kit to an otherwise stock engine is
nothing short of folly, as a stock engine is not equipped in many ways to take
what Webers can give. At the minimum, your engine needs to be built up with
higher compression and with a high-performance camshaft. Since you're going
that far, you should have everything balanced and maybe some lightening of
components and porting of the cylinder head, and you will want an exhaust
header and a free-flow exhaust system. None of this is for a man or woman
with a faint heart or a thin wallet, but the end result could be a 50% increase in
horsepower for an overall investment of five or six thousand dollars.
If you are looking for super performance for your TR250 or TR6 sports car,
a good place to start is by purchasing one of of the little competition
preparation manuals written by Kas Kastner back when the cars were new.
This will cost you only $8.50, and you will find it listed on page 257 of this
catalogue. If this book catches your interest, you will find other books that may
be of use. Reading a few books is cheap entertainment, and it can help you to
make a plan to get what you want out of your car in the most cost-effective and
most enjoyable way for you. You can also get some help in making a plan by
talking with Dave Hagenbuch on TRF's Tech Line.
