REAR TUBE SHOCK CONVERSIONS
"Choose Structural Type or Less-Expensive, Easy-Mount
Conversion..."
There are several different types of tube shock conversions on the market.
One type is billed as easy-to-mount, and that is true. The upper brackets simply
bolt to the frame brackets to which the lever shocks mount. My only fear about
this one is that the tube shock working on the upper bracket has a good deal of
leverage on the frame, and I know of one instance where a friend ripped the
crossmember off his frame with this conversion. Truth to say, his frame may
not have been in good condition, and this is something anyone should take into
consideration before attempting modifications.
The other available tube-shock conversion provides a structure that bolts
from the shock mounting bracket up inside the body shell. This is not
terrifically complicated, but it does entail drilling some holes in the trunk and
wheel arch. At TRF, we always try to let you make the decision. I personally
believe that I would choose the second type of conversion, but again, it's your
choice...
