SEAT SPRING UNIT, TR3A, TR3B
"Correct Seat Springs for Classic Triumph Bucket Seat"
The hardest thing I've ever succeeded in doing was figuring out how to make
these seat spring units. I wanted to solve the problem because available seat springs
didn't work. They were too stiff, and you sat high on the springs with your legs
bumping the steering wheel. I had one of these installed on the driver's side of my
TR3A for a while when I was first testing it on the roads. I was very uneasy, as the
springs waved back and forth on curves etc. You really need to sit in the seat rather
than on the springs.
The original spring unit used 113 separate springs woven together and fitted with
upper and lower frames. That is what I learned how to make, and the effect they have
on your comfort in driving your car will be amazing if you have been using the repro springs. These were
a long time coming into production, as I had a very hard time finding anyone who could learn to do the
work. I made a few spring assemblies for friends, but the work was too time consuming to fit into my
busy schedule. The spring units are currently being assembled by a very crafty friend who finds time to
keep ahead of the demand...
