Now, I have been looking for an upgraded replacement for the "Silent-bloc Bush
and Pin Assemblies" on which the center tie rod pivots as the levers turn on the steering
box and on the idler assembly. The original parts do not last very long, and they may
be the single weakest link in the original TR2, TR3 steering design. In addition, they
may contribute to the very great amount of effort required to steer a TR2 or TR3 at
slow speeds during such operations as parallel parking on the street.
The new assemblies have no rubber. Instead, they consist of a Delrin bush which is pressed into the
center tie rod. A precision-machined pin then pivots on the bush and on a Delrin thrust washer fitted
under the head of the pin. These new "bush and pin assemblies" were developed by Joe Alexander at
Alexander Racing Enterprises (A.R.E.). The selling price of a pair of the new components will be $59.95
after this catalogue goes out of date, and the list price will be $67.50.
During the life of this Christmas Book, however, I am selling them at an introductory price of just
$44.95, my goal being to sell a lot of the new components on to enthusiasts so they may install them and
compare notes. I am excited to find out what customers think of these new parts...
A similar part has been available in the past from a Triumph racing parts supply company. This part
IS similar to the one we are now offering, except that it has bronze bushes and a steel pin. My fear all
along has been that the all-metal bush and pin will transmit too much vibration to the driver through the
steering wheel. I believe that the self-lubricating Delrin bush is a good compromise for most customers.
I believe the new bush and pin kit, will make a decided improvement to anyone's TR2 or TR3 sports
sports car over the original components.
