GENUINE OLD-SCHOOL SCARVES FROM ENGLAND IN
TRF COLOURS
"Handmade Soft Woolen Scarves Are Warm, Useful, and Beautiful"
I discovered the university outfitter that makes these scarves when my wife and
I were on our honeymoon in England in 1974. They make ties, cricket sweaters,
colourful striped blazers for college clubs, and old school scarves among other
things, including, these days, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and machine embroidery. If you
remember one of my very favourite movies, entitled "Chariots of Fire" about the
British runners in the first Olympic Games after World War I, many of the costumes
for that movie were made by this same outfitter.
These scarves are known as "old school scarves," as they are made in the
colours of English colleges and private schools. I like them because they come
from an English tradition, because they are bright and beautiful, because they are
made of lovely, soft wool, and because they help to keep me warm when it is cold
outside. When I wrote to the manufacturer a few weeks ago to find out if I could
list them in my Christmas catalogue, I asked if the scarves were still made and if
they are still the same. I received a fax back one day later letting me know they are
still made and they are still the same as they were in 1974 when I purchased my
first scarf and the same as they were in 1989 when I made scarves for the first time
in "TRF Colours." Probably the same as they were in the 1920's when those
British runners were training for the Olympic Games. That is a good thing, in my
opinion, as they go well with my lifestyle and other accessories essential to it. I
will have twenty-five of each scarf available to ship by mid-December. I hope that
some of the users of this catalogue would like a genuine old school scarf...
