MODEL STEAM ENGINES ACTUALLY RUN WITH FIRE
AND LIVE STEAM
"Relive Your Youth and Impress Your Grandchildren..."
I don't know about you, but I always wanted a steam engine when I was a kid...   I'd
look at them in the Sears & Roebuck Catalogue or the Montgomery Ward Catalogue, the
Christmas wishbooks of choice at our house.  But I never had one when I was a kid.  That
thrill was saved for me till I had a son of my own.  Albert received a steam engine for
Christmas when he was six or seven years old.  It used solid fuel, and we would fire it up
fairly frequently.
Later, Caroline, John-Paul, and Simon came along, and they liked the steam engine too.
One day, when they were not too old, seven and five or eight and six, John-Paul and Simon
fired up the steam engine.  Regrettably, they let the boiler go dry, and the heat melted the
solder and blew the end off the boiler!  They were undaunted, however, and they mixed up
a batch of JB Weld to make a repair.  They glued the boiler back together, but that steam
engine never worked again.  I saw it recently on a shelf in John-Paul's bedroom.  Although
it no longer works, it remains a treasure.
Now, it happens that I have found an excellent source of model steam engines at
reasonable prices.  If you are like me and always wanted one, here's your chance.  If you
were luckier than I and had a steam engine when you were young, perhaps you can return
the favour by giving one or more to children or grandchildren of your own.  If you buy the
steam engine kit, you can spend about two hours assembling it together with the lucky
recipient, and both of you can learn about steam engines and forge a bond between
yourselves that will last longer than you or I.
I am selling model steam engines in this car company catalogue, because The Roadster Factory is
more than just a car parts company.  Working on steam engines today may interest our children in the
things mechanical that all of us in the car hobby enjoy so much.  I enjoy finding and listing interesting
stuff for TRF customers, and I hope to sell a dozen steam engines or more this Christmas to pay for this
page in my catalogue...
