Genuine rayon loop pile carpet has the original look and feel for the classic
Triumph TR models. Certain colours, particularly charcoal grey, fade quicker than
100% nylon carpet, but rayon does not have that cheap shine in sunlight. Did you
know, by the way that Rayon is actually a natural fibre made from wood. It came
along just after the war (i.e. WWII), when there was a shortage of silk for parachutes
and lady's stockings. It became readily available about the same time as TR3A,
TR3B, and TR4 car production, when Triumph was looking for a less-expensive
alternative to the Wilton wool carpets they had been using. Rayon was cheaper than
wool then, and it still is today, but today, it is a more luxurious and less plastic
material than nylon and other plastic derivatives.
