TRADITIONAL ENGLISH PICNIC BASKETS

Elegant picnics are part of the British sports car tradition both here and in
England, and enthusiasts often display their cars in concours events with traditional
English willow picnic baskets on the luggage racks.
Many old photos exist of English sporting events where spectators set up elegant
picnic lunches, including strawberries, champagne, and caviar. These might be laid
out on tartan blankets on the ground with gentleman in tweed jackets or navy blazers
and ladies in white linen dresses. Such a wonderful time and place to be alive, eh?
Yet, all of us still have opportunities for this same level of elegance here in the
U.S. today, whether with a group of friends or just a husband and wife or a boyfriend
and girlfriend. All you need is the sports car, a tartan blanket or two, a traditional
picnic basket, a crusty loaf of French bread, a bottle of wine or champagne, and
cheese, caviar, fresh fruit, or whatever you like to eat. Finally, you need a date, your
husband or wife will do, and a destination. The result will be an afternoon to
remember....
All of the baskets listed here are wonderful hand-woven English willow baskets
with leather handles and straps, woven by hand in England. The baskets fitted out
with china and silver are wonderful, but you may prefer to fit out your own basket
with your own accessories, as I have done. Therefore, we are listing empty baskets
along with the ones already fitted out with china, silver, linen, and other accessories.

Note that we are listing different fitted baskets from the ones listed last year.
This year, there are choices of two different linen patterns, natural and
Gordon plaid, and two different types of contents. The first type is designed
for tea with a thermos and mugs, and the second type is designed for wine
with a wine cooler and wine glasses. All of these combinations are available in
a size for two people or a size for four people. Note that the picnic baskets
listed last year with sporting themes on the china are still available. The
themes include a choice of golfing, fly fishing, ballooning, or fox hunting.
The selling prices for these sporting-themed baskets are $249 for two-person
baskets, $299 for four-person baskets, and $399 for six-person baskets. The
best values, in our opinion, are on the baskets listed on the next page. The
cost prices are up dramatically, but we have held the
line as best we could by reducing our profit margin.
Picnics at the Runyan Farm are delightful because they
