CARPET SETS
All of the carpet sets that supplied by TRF are made exclusively for us by The Magic
Carpet Factory. Wilton wool carpet is sourced in England and special production runs of rayon
loop carpet are supplied by a major carpet manufacturer here in the U.S. All carpet patterns
have been developed from original samples and have been carefully test-fitted to cars. All
details are as original. You will not find a more original carpet set for your TR2 or TR3
anywhere. Three different carpet patterns and two different materials used during the production
of the side screen cars.
The TR2 and small mouth TR3 cars used the earliest pattern and wool was used. In 1958
with the introduction of the TR3A, a different pattern came along and wool carpet was still used
through commission number TS35350. At that point, the early TR3A pattern continued to be
used but the carpet material was changed to rayon loop. When the TR3A body was retooled at
commission number TS60000, a flat rear shelf appeared behind the seats and a new pattern was
needed. Triumph continued to use rayon loop carpet through the end of the TR3A production.
It is widely believed that all TR3B models used a charcoal grey rayon loop carpet, and TRF has
that available. For the TR3A and TR3B, we offer carpet sets with matching front floor carpet
sets with a rubber heel mat or with rubber mats as original.
It should be noted that some colours of rayon loop carpet may fade more quickly than nylon
carpet materials. However, rayon material has a much nicer feel and an appearance that is much
more appropriate for classic British sports car models that used rayon loop originally. Note that
rayon loop carpet is also more expensive than nylon loop, and we choose to offer rayon loop
because we believe it to be a nicer material in many ways. Having said this, the only colour
that has really suffered a fading problem is charcoal grey, and original charcoal grey carpets also
faded more than other colours. So, in a way the fading is just another facet of originality...
