GL4 GEAR LUBE
"The Right Gear Oil for Your Gearbox, Diff, Steering Box, Etc."
Some years ago, TRF learned that the additives in modern gear oil may cause deterioration of
brass and bronze bushes in older gearboxes and differentials. We did some research, and we
learned that the correct specification of the gear oil for classic British sports cars is known as GL4.
Then we learned that GL4 is sold only in five-gallon buckets, not a feasible amount for an
individual to purchase even if he could find anyone who stocks it. TRF has, therefore, developed
a little business sideline of bottling GL4 gear lube in quart bottles. This can be messy work, at
least for me, as I always make messes when I work. But it is a service we offer to our customers.
We just hate the idea that changing your gear lube could result in expensive damage to your
gearbox or your differential
