LUCAS PL700 TRIPOD HEADLAMPS
"Replica Parts with `Lucas" Emblems"
I have a pair of genuine Lucas PL700 Tripod headlamps on my TR3A.
These were purchased many years ago and carefully hoarded for use on my
car. I fitted them with high-wattage halogen bulbs, and they light up the
road like any good modern halogen lamp would do. They also look
fantastic! The chances of finding another pair of genuine PL700 Tripods
now is slim, as is finding a replacement if one of mine were damaged.
Maybe it could be had for big bucks on an e-bay auction, I don't know.
However, replica tripod lamps are currently being made by a supplier
we know through a manufacturer in China. The appearance is "spot-on,"
the lamps have Lucas emblems, and they are also marked "Made in
England." They are also set up for H4 Halogen bulbs. Therefore, you can
have the spot-on vintage appearance with the lighting power of a modern halogen headlamp, and I
can purchase a replacement lamp if one of mine were broken.
